|Our full day and half day, school year Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) program is filled with investigation, exploration, and discovery. It’s where active and enthusiastic children can refine and expand their skills and knowledge, while working on the Common Core Standards.
That’s why our skilled teachers model and encourage the children to share, take turns, and treat others with respect. Children will be given many opportunities to write and draw to express themselves.
Through innovative teaching practices, purposefully-designed learning environments, and themed-enriched activities, teachers ensure pre-kindergarten children enjoy meaningful learning experiences that lead to success in school with Common Core Standards and in life.
The classroom is organized in centers, which include: writing, reading, math, science, art, gross motor, home living, and more. These activities promote social interaction and hands on learning opportunities. Group times for music, story reading, and active play are planned with the interests and attention span of four to five year olds in mind. When all these areas are combined, a student will have a strong knowledge base aligned with the Common Core Standards and will prepare them for Kindergarten.
A Pre-Kindergartener's day at a glimpse:
Our day starts out as early as 6:45am. Students arrive and eat a well balanced breakfast. As they finish breakfast, they have free choice time to explore their classroom and form the beginning bonds with friends and teachers. The first circle of the day explains daily expectations. Thematic units support student learning through the use of songs, stories, and activities. The students observe the weather and complete the calendar. A weekly letter, shape, color and number are introduced and reinforced throughout the week. Students go to chapel with Pastor or join in on Faith Circle and read the very basic stories of the bible and sing songs. The class is provided with chances to play on our beautiful playground or stretch their muscles in our indoor gym. Throughout the morning the teachers provide opportunities for the students to engages in math, pre-reading, and fine motor activities by rotating through learning centers, at their own pace. These skills build the foundations for the Common Core Standards.
